Positions Elected Every Year

The MCRC is an organization that is based upon student representation, and thus there are three main elections each year (there may also be subsequent by-elections). Below is a summary of the positions that are elected in each of those three elections, more information about each position will be available before each election, including a list of specific duties, any applicable stipend, and nomination and campaigning rules.

Floor Representatives
Towards the end of September, elections are held in every residence building to elect a floor representative for each floor (naturally, although there is specific criteria for what defines a floor in the bylaws). Although the position is voluntary, it gives an excellent opportunity to learn about student government and launch yourself into any positions you may be interested in for the future. The Floor Representative represents his or her constituents to the House Council, which generally meets every two weeks to discuss issues important to the residents of the building, including upcoming social events.
House Presidents
Elected towards the middle of the winter semester, House Presidents will stay in their elected residence for the next academic year and represent the residents to the General Assembly, which meets every two weeks, along with scheduling regular House Councils (also every two weeks) and planning or coordinating social events in the residence building. House Presidents also sit on one or more committees of the General Assembly, which discuss important issues more in depth than the General Assembly has time to do each second week. A House President must be responsible, reliable, have excellent time management skills and, of course, enjoy serving their constituents in a student government position. The position is paid and may involve some small duties during the summer along with mandatory training at the end of August.
President, Vice President (Residence Affairs) and Vice President (Discipline)
These three positions are elected as a team at the beginning of the winter semester (generally done at the same time as other campus elections). Being the three most demanding positions of the MCRC, the three incumbents will guide the Society and Council through the subsequent academic year (which begins promptly on May 1st). As soon as having been elected, the incoming executive begin a transition process guided by the current outgoing executive which includes learning the duties of the position, hiring new staff and preparing for the future. All executive positions (including the two hired Vice Presidents) are paid and highly rewarding.
