Positions Hired Every Year

There are a number of consistent positions that are hired every year, generally around the same time each year (for each position). Below is a summary of each of the positions that will become available over the course of the year. As each position becomes available, more specific information will be available regarding its duties and any possible stipend (along with application form and due date naturally).

First Year Chair and First Year Committee
The most important of all positions available to first year students living in residence, the person selected for the committee chair will lead a committee of other first year students who discuss issues concerning the first year student body living in residence. Unique to this position is the fact that the First Year Chair gets a vote at General Assembly, the only first year student to have this privilege. Membership to the committee is volunteer, but the Chair is paid a small stipend (generally $500 for the year).
Interns and Executive Assistant
Although the number of interns vary each year, there is generally at least one for each Vice President. Vice Presidents may also choose to split the intern duties between more than one intern. All intern positions are volunteer, but they give you an excellent view into the internal workings of a large and entirely student-run organization while giving you a feel for the enormous workload (but very high reward) the Executives deal with on a daily basis. The Executives as a whole may also choose to hire an Executive Assistant, if funds permit. This paid position helps with all office duties including photocopying, office administration and answering phones, thus allowing the Executives to be more productive with their regular duties.
Council Members
Council members are individually appointed in each of the House Councils. These volunteer positions allow for students who want to get involved with their local MCRC representatives without holding an elected office of their own. Generally Council Member perform a specific duty, such as being the council's secretary, or coordinating promotions for an upcoming event. Speak to your House President for details on any Council Member positions that may be available in your building.
Facilitators
The vast majority of the MCRC's staff are facilitators, who are hired at the beginning of the winter semester. This full time position, earning over $3000 for the year, lasts a full 12 months, starting on May 1 and ending on April 30 of the following year (although there are few responsibilities during the summer). Facilitators are grouped into two categories: Social and Discipline. Social Facilitators further the mandate of the MCRC by planning regular social events in their buildings. They also work together with other Social Facilitators and House Presidents to plan larger scale events that involve several residence buildings. Discipline Facilitors help to maintain community standards in residence by investigating alleged ill-behaviour. See the discipline page to learn more about the process. Facilitators are also required to attend mandatory training at the end of August along with their House President counterparts.
Vice Presidents
Although two Vice Presidents are elected along with the President, there are two more Vice Presidents who are hired by the newly elected executive. These two hired Vice Presidents fulfill the requirements of the Operations and Finance portfolios, each having their own considerable share of duties.
House Presidents
Although all House Presidents are elected towards the middle of the winter semester under regular circumstances, it may occur that there is a house that fails to elect a House President, even after a subsequent by-election. The incoming executive then has the option to open up an application process to all residents who may wish to apply for the open position(s).
